Does your shower water feel lukewarm? Have you noticed a drop in water pressure? While an instant electric water heater is designed for efficiency and cleanliness, it is not immune to maintenance. Unlike a traditional tank-style electric hot water heater, an instant water heater does not store "wastewater" in a large drum. However, minerals like calcium and magnesium build up inside the heating elements over time.

Why You Must Clean Your Instant Water Heater
Step-by-Step: Flushing Your Tankless Electric Water Heater
A submersible pump and a bucket. Two washing machine hoses. 3-4 gallons of undiluted white vinegar (safe for your electric water heater).
Disconnect Power: Safety first. Go to your circuit breaker and turn off the power to your instant electric water heater. Close Water Valves: Shut off the incoming cold water and outgoing hot water valves connected to your tankless water heater electric unit. Connect the Hoses: Most modern tankless electric water heater installations have "service valves" (or isolation valves). Remove the caps. Connect one hose to the cold water service port and attach it to your submersible pump placed in the bucket. Connect the second hose to the hot water service port and place the end into the bucket. Circulate Vinegar: Fill the bucket with vinegar. Turn on the pump and open the service valves. Let the vinegar circulate through your instant electric water heater for 45 to 60 minutes. This breaks down the scale inside your electric hot water heater. Flush with Fresh Water: Turn off the pump and dispose of the vinegar. Fill the bucket with fresh water (or open the cold water valve slightly if configured) to flush the instant water heater for 5 minutes. This ensures no vinegar taste remains in your electric water heater. Restart: Close the service valves, disconnect hoses, replace caps, open the main water valves, and restore power to your tankless electric water heater.
